Travel without a travel agent: how to plan your own trip
An independent trip around Europe often costs half as much as a package holiday — and you decide where to go and how much to relax.
Package holiday or DIY?
A package holiday is convenient if you don't want to plan anything: flights, hotel and transfers are already included. But you pay for the agency's work and are tied to its dates and hotels. On your own, you pick the cheapest dates, fly low-cost and stay wherever you like.
Step 1. Flights
Start with a cheap direct return flight. Flexible dates are the biggest saving: prices on neighbouring days can differ several times over. We check prices daily and show the cheapest trips of 1–7 days.
Step 2. Accommodation
Book accommodation with free cancellation right after buying your flights. An apartment with a kitchen is better value than a hotel for couples or families.
Step 3. Getting from the airport
In most European cities, buses, metro or trains run from the airport — several times cheaper than a taxi. Check the route in advance.
Step 4. Insurance and documents
Get travel insurance and check the entry rules and document requirements for your nationality.
When a package is still better
All-inclusive beach holidays in high season, trips with small children or to remote resorts are sometimes cheaper as a package. Compare: flights and accommodation booked separately often add up to less.
